JavaScript has end up the de-facto scripting language for the web. So in client-side we can safely say that the JS-HTML5-CSS will be there for years to come.
In server-side PHP is still dominating, and it will dominate for a few years. During Web 2.0 boom it was PHP that people used the most, it ended up having a lot of Web associated libraries. PHP should no longer be viewed as simply a language but the proven tools it gives. Wordpress, Drupal, phpBB have to be used via atleast 5% of the Internet websites! Python and Ruby will begin taking a large chunk of PHP’s share. And between these each I suppose it’s no longer the most superior that will win however the most effective neighborhood that’s going to win.
Ruby on Rails created a fantastic neighborhood of evangelists. But Python is now catching up. Python’s speed and the fact that it’s discovering its area in most of the college courses will accelerate Python’s market share.
Google App Engine has end up the new Yahoo Geocities. This itself will speed up Python’s growth. There is a hype around Node.JS and additionally Dart. Even Scala is getting some traction. But when it comes to large market share. This is my prediction:
- PHP will nevertheless be the market leader for the subsequent 5 years
- 10 years down the line Python will take over PHP’s market share
- There will be a challenging opposition between RoR/Node.js/Scala/Dart/ and so forth however they will never attain PHP nor Python in 10 years.
